The Scandinavian Golf Club

The Scandinavian Golf Club is quite an unique golf facility and it will take a very long time before you see anything similar in Denmark or in the whole world for that matter.

The two 18 holes courses are created with the sole purpose of making something extraordinary in beauty and quality. The world famous golf course architect firm of Robert Trent Jones II was engaged to fullfill that ambition.

Naturally the Club House should match the challenge of the golf courses and also world famous Danish architect, Henning Larsen, was given the task of creating a clubhouse, that combines the lightness and nature of Scandinavian design combined with the rustic and warmth of the English manor style. A combination that doesn’t seem to match, but the result is surprisingly close and the club house is unlike anything else. The materials used are Norwegian Slate, Tombak, and Oregon Pine.

In Golf Digest’s latest ranking of the Nordic Golf Courses, Old Course came in first in Denmark and 3rd overall, and the New Course came in fourth in Denmark.

About the golf we can briefly tell, that the holes are laid out gently into the rolling landscape and as such looks as if they have been there forever. The old military practice facility consists of a beautiful topography with lots of lakes and mature vegetation. The golf holes take maximum advantages of the existing features and should be played with consideration. Strategy is the key word and length will not necessarily be an advantage.

The greens are undulating and fast rolling and demands sensitivity and precision in the approach. Once you get confident with the fast greens, you realize that they actually make it easier to sink even long puts.

There are so many memorable holes that it is difficult to select one from the other. Risk & Reward is a well-known philosophy that the architect happily promotes, and if we should mention two holes it would be the 18th on both courses, that are fine examples of this. On both holes the player can cut off a big chunk of the length of the holes by sending the tee shot across a big lake. Of course the question is inevitably; have much can you chew off? Once the tee shot is successfully negotiated, the player is tempted to go for the green in two to set up an eagle putt and certain birdie. But danger lures in the water close to and around the green.

The golf course architect firm of Robert Trent Jones II has for ever put their mark on Scandinavia. Having designed the no. 1 course in all three countries (Norway: Miklagaard and Sweden: Bro Hof Slott). In the United States the US Open 2015 was played on a Robert

Trent Jones II course, Chambers Bay, from only 2008. In 2016 the US Womens Open was played on another Robert Trent Jones II golf Course, Cordevalle in California.
